Let’s get started… You can preview scanned receipts and make adjustments with the edit buttons before uploading them to Google Drive. Still, Google Drive’s new scanning feature (which, for now, is only available on the Android version of the Google Drive mobile app) could be handy for anyone who wants to snap and store receipts, business cards, or any other paper documents on the fly. Once uploaded, Google Drive will scour the image using OCR (short for Optical Character Recognition) technology, and if the image you snapped is clear enough, you’ll be able to search for any words of numbers that Drive managed to detect.īefore you get too excited, keep in mind that Google’s OCR accuracy is somewhat hit and miss it does much better with words and letters than with numbers, and it also hates creases, so make sure to scan your receipts before folding them up in your pocket. Just point and shoot, and the Google Drive app will convert the image of your receipt into a PDF, and then upload the file directly to your cloud-based, accessible-from-anywhere Google Drive account. The latest version of the Google Drive app lets you scan just about any paper document-yes, including receipts-using your Android phone’s camera. 2) The scanned document is then immediatley available in the Notes app both on my iPhone and my Macbook. There is also a web version. Are you a stickler for keeping your receipts? If so, there’s a new feature in Google Drive for Android that’s right up your alley. I am experiencing the following situation: 1) I scan documents (such as letters & invoices) by using the Notes app on my iPhone (via Notes > Camera Icon > Scan Documents). Receipts by Wave is free and available for iOS and Android devices. Simply open the Invoice Fly app on your iOS device, and go to Tools in the bottom menu, Receipt Scanner, Scan Receipt. The interface is straightforward, perhaps even slightly dated in appearance, but for those looking for a tool that does what it's designed to without a lot of extra bulk, this one might be the one for you. The app is quite simple, even basic, without a lot of extra bells and whistles. Receipts by Wave helps you track and organize your receipts by categorizing them, allowing you to separate business expenses in the way that works best for you. Of course, the downside to this feature is that you need to be connected to the internet to use the app (though on a smartphone that is probably less of an issue). What is a little different about Wave is that it saves your receipt information in the cloud instead of your device, saving you some storage space on your phone or tablet. Receipts by Wave is a free receipt management app that allows you to take pictures of your receipts and save the receipt information-and the app will prompt you to confirm the information to ensure that it is correct.
